This year’s theme invites participants to reflect on lighting the communities near the Polar Circle. Due to their high latitude these communities are subjected to particular lighting phenomena. Since light is an essential part of every living organism, it or its lack thereof has a profound effect on humankind. Can these isolated communities benefit from a more adapted artificial outdoor lighting solution to satisfy their particular Nordic needs and identities?

  Počinje rekonstrukcija starog gradskog jezgra PANČEVO, 15. septembar 2011. (TV Pančevo) – Sledeće nedelje počinju radovi na rekonstrukciji dela starog gradskog jezgra. Istovremeno, Direkcija za izgradnju raspisaće konkurs za arhitektonsko vizuelno obeležje ovog dela Pančeva. This July we are launching our second competition - SLANT GARDEN DESIGN AWARD 2011 and this time the competition will be open to all, and the project will be to design a garden for a private residence. Once again the key feature of this competition is that the project in question is a “virtual project”, one that has been created specifically for this competition. You are being presented with a fixed house plan located on a clearly defined plot, but apart from that you will be free to decide everything else. For example you can choose the global location of this virtual garden and after that you can choose what its setting will be. Some may prefer an urban setting, while others may choose a rural location. Your garden could be in a city centre, in a leafy suburb, on a mountain, by the sea, in the desert etc, you get to choose. Experimental Architecture Summerschool PAO ARCHITECTURE SUMMERSCHOOL 2011 Going by the title UNDER ONE ROOF: A THOUSAND IDEAS finally the concept and programme for our 2011 PAO Summerschool got decided. The workshop will happen - as in the previous years - in the Romanian mountain village of Potoc, near Timisoara city. General idea is to work on the old school building in Potoc, and to set-up a kind of Micro-Bauhaus in this rural setting. The large old school building of Potoc provides a perfect location for a variety of projects on all scales: from artistic work (sculpting, drawing, crafting) to architectural construction (house-in-house). TIME The workshop will happen in the last two weeks of August and beginning of September, exactly: August 22nd through September 4th.
