by INHABITAT The Semiahmoo Library’s Larger Than Life Living Wall Features Over 10,000 Plants by  Tafline Laylin , 08/30/11 Share on Tumblr Email We've featured the amazing Semiahmoo Public Library  vertical garden  before, but our new pictures show even more clearly just how alive this wall really is. More than 10,000 individual plants representing 120 unique plant species cover so much wall space - a whopping 3,000 square feet - it's kind of surprising that the whole building doesn't keel over. Instead, Vancouver-based design firm  Green over Grey  has transformed the library's exterior into a totally self-sufficient (and structurally sound) green wall which actually enhances the interior environment while also supporting a  healthy urban ecosystem  that entices bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds to come out and play! We’ve seen some pretty cool living walls,  including the world’s larges

Drylands Design - Students competition

Слика
Drylands Design Eligible:  students Register:  15 November 2011  / Submit:  15 December 2011 Registration fee:  none Competition Objectives + Priorities The purpose of Drylands Design is to generate a portfolio of long term design strategies for the arid and semi-arid west’s water-scarce future. Proposals must recognize and address: The Water-Energy Nexus The relationship between water, energy use, and heat-trapping greenhouse gas emissions is intertwined and self-limiting; uncoupling water’s capture, treatment, distribution, and use from energy-intensive delivery systems is critical to a new western drylands design. Scarcity + Variability The twin effects of climate change on the American west’s hydrologic cycle are expected to be scarcity (prolonged drought periods and diminished snowpack) and variability (increased intensity of flood events). Design for variability will replace engineering for stationarity. Localized Resources Rain water, storm water and single-use

Student Competition:Otto-Linne Prize 2011 After its successful reinstatement in 2009,the igs (International Garden Show) 2013 and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg,Germany are once again hosting the Otto-Linne Prize for urban landscape architecture in February 2011. The challenge for the year 2011 questions the threshold of classical landscape architecture, and addresses a topic that affects open space planning, urban design, architecture, and traffic planning issues alike. The competition should encourage the candidates to tackle the principles and potential prospects of urban landscape architecture. With the aid of bold images and controversial approaches, the treatment of the proposed space in Hamburg,Germany should trigger discussion in the professionals world. The competition area in Hamburg city includes the Bille estuary in the upper harbour of the Elbe and the adjoining areas.  Those eligible to take part are students and young graduates (up to 39 years old) of landscape archi

URBANI DIZAJN - ZBORNIK RADOVA

Слика
Urbani dizajn, zbornik radova Beograd, 2006 [cena 400 din] Reč urednika Urbani život i urbana kultura su oduvek cinili srž civilizacije i ekonomskog razvoja. An Incredible Crop of Living Green Offices Springs Up in Downtown Denver by  Hazel Saunderson , 08/16/11 filed under:   Art ,  Design for Health ,  Eco-Inspiration ,  gallery ,  Recycled Materials Share on Tumblr Email     The streets of Denver recently burst forth with an overgrown set of desks, cubicles, and conference areas that give a whole new meaning to the term ‘green' office. While they can't boast about paperless systems, energy-saving strategies, or waste recycling, these living work spaces add a healthy breath of fresh air to the city's business district. The intriguing range of five playful spaces overflowing with foliage are part of the conceptual installation  ‘’Natural Systems Domination"  by the designers at  Tres Birds Workshop . The installation was commissioned in order to encourage people in the business district to enjoy more daily fresh air breaks, and we think these outdoor office spaces might just catch people’s attention enough to
